Death by add-on.

Vagaro sells the calendar, then sells you everything around it separately. At CNL the website is the product and $29 is the whole bill.

Vagaro sells you a calendar, a $30-a-month list price promoted at $23.99 for a limited time, then sells you everything around it separately. The website is a paid add-on, and so are text marketing and forms. Stack Vagaro's own published add-on prices and the bill lands near $100 a month by the time the pieces are in place. CNL Systems is $29 a month, and the website is the product, not a line item.

That's the whole argument. Here's the receipts.

What does Vagaro actually cost?

Vagaro lists at $30 a month for one bookable calendar, promoted at $23.99 with "Only for a limited time" printed beside the price. Each additional calendar or staff member adds about $10 a month, up to $83.99 a month for seven or more. And that's the base subscription, before a single add-on.

For a solo pro, one calendar sounds fine. Until you notice what isn't in it. The subscription price is real, but it only buys you the door. Everything you came for is sold separately inside. The next section is the store.

What do the add-ons add up to?

On Vagaro, the website is a separately-priced add-on called MySite, and it has company: text marketing, forms, Vagaro Drive, and branded apps are each priced separately too. And you don't need reviewers to price the stack, because Vagaro publishes the menu. The promoted $23.99 base, plus MySite at $20, plus text marketing at $20 for 1,000 credits, plus forms at $10, plus Drive from $10, comes to $83.99 a month. Add the online shopping cart at $10 and it's $93.99. The branded app is another $100 a month, plus a $100 one-time fee, on its own line.

Think about what that model means. Your website is an upsell, and so is the text marketing you reach clients with, and so is the intake form they fill out. The subscription buys you a seat at the register; the business costs extra.

And an à la carte bill has a second cost that never shows on the invoice: you have to keep deciding. Every month, every add-on is a small negotiation with yourself about whether the texting is earning its keep, whether you really need the forms, and whether the branded app can wait. Software you pay for piece by piece is software you're perpetually re-shopping. A flat price closes all of those tabs at once.

Is Vagaro good for a solo barber or stylist?

A solo barber is Vagaro's smallest account, and the pricing treats you like it. The model is built around calendars. A shop with seven bookable staff spreads $83.99 a month across the whole floor, while one pro carries the entire subscription, plus the add-ons, alone. Same menu, one wallet.

For a solo operator, every line of that à la carte menu lands on the same person: you. You're the one comparing add-on prices at 10pm and deciding whether forms are worth it this month. The model assumes there's a front desk doing this arithmetic. In a one-chair shop, the front desk is also holding the clippers.

How is CNL different from Vagaro?

At CNL the website is the product, and $29 a month is the whole bill. Your own site, on your own domain, with booking, payments online and in person, automatic reminders, your client list, and email campaigns. One price, nothing sold separately, no per-calendar math.

The rest of the contrast, plainly:

  • No cut, no markup. We never take a percentage of your sales. Card processing runs at Stripe's standard rates with no CNL markup.
  • Live within 24 hours. A real person sets up your domain, site, services, and hours with you.
  • Your list stays yours. Leave whenever you want and take the full client export with you, complete with history and notes.

What does switching to CNL look like?

You're live within 24 hours of signing up, and a real person does the setup with you: site, services, hours, the lot. No add-on menu to price out first, because there's nothing on it: the website, booking with deposits, payments online and at the chair, automatic reminders, your client list, and email campaigns are all inside the $29.

The domain is handled the same way. We register one for you at cost (about $12 a year for a .com), or connect a domain you already own, free. And if you ever leave, your full client list leaves with you, history and notes included. The exit door being unlocked is part of the product.

Does Vagaro give you your own website and domain?

On Vagaro, the website itself is a paid add-on called MySite, sold on top of the subscription. At CNL there is no version of the product without your website, and it lives on a real domain of your own: we register one for you at cost, about $12 a year for a .com, or connect a domain you already own for free.

This is the part worth sitting with. A booking link is not a business address. When a client hands your name to a friend, that friend types your name into a phone and should land on your own site rather than a platform's page or a profile.

The short version

Vagaro's model is à la carte: a calendar subscription that grows $10 at a time per calendar, with the website, the texting, and the forms each sold on the side. Priced from Vagaro's own menu, that stack lands at $93.99 a month, before the $100-a-month branded app. CNL's model is a flat $29 that already includes the thing the others charge extra for, on a domain with your name on it. One bill. No menu.

Every Vagaro price on this page, the base subscription, the promotion, and each add-on, comes from Vagaro's own published price list, checked on August 21, 2026, and re-checked on August 24, 2026. Prices move; the menu doesn't.
